Today, I want to share an inspiring story from one of our customers, Jackie Bradley, who took the right steps when faced with sudden hearing loss.
Jackie’s Story: Acting Fast Made All the Difference
Jackie experienced sudden hearing loss in her left ear. She did the right thing by visiting her GP first, hoping for an explanation or a quick fix. However, the GP couldn’t see any obvious causes like earwax buildup and, since Jackie had no pain, dizziness, or illness, they didn’t express immediate concern. Instead, the GP advised her to wait for a referral letter for a hearing test.
Luckily, Jackie’s husband urged her not to wait and to see an audiologist immediately. This decision turned out to be critical. At Premium Care Hearing, we assessed her condition and immediately advised her to go to A&E. Why? Because sudden hearing loss is often a medical emergency that requires urgent steroid treatment. If left untreated, the hearing loss could have become permanent.
Jackie took our advice and sought emergency treatment—just in time! She was incredibly grateful for the quick intervention, and we were thrilled to follow up and check on her recovery. In her words:
“Thank goodness I didn’t wait because they said I needed to go to A&E. If I didn’t get it treated with steroids, I’d likely not get hearing back in my left ear… (If it’s not treated early, then it’s lost forever.)”
